Who We Are
The Pacific Meso Center (PMC), a division of The Pacific Heart, Lung & Blood Institute, was established in 2002 with the goal of becoming the most innovative research and treatment organization in the world for patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). PMC focuses on specific areas of research that improve mesothelima victims’ lives and longevity, particularly those promising treatments that approach MPM as a chronic, treatable disease. The ultimate goal of PMC is finding a cure for mesothelioma. The Pacific Meso Center (PMC) is a division of the Pacific Heart, Lung & Blood Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit medical research institute.
What We Do
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you have come to the right place. Finding hope, the best course of treatment—and a renewed quality of life- begins here.
What do we know about this disease? The most common form is malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). It occurs in the vast majority of mesothelioma patients-over 70% of cases are found in the lining of the lung known as the pleura. Often caused by exposure to asbestos, mesothelioma has had limited treatment options until recently.
The pioneering work of Robert B. Cameron, MD at The Pacific Meso Center (PMC) is changing all that. PMC is the only research organization dedicated to not only treating MPM patients, but to extending their lifespan and bettering their quality of life. Dr. Cameron is an internationally recognized authority on treating MPM and is leading scientific research into finding less invasive, lung-sparing treatments for MPM. Patients at PMC benefit from our translational medicine approach that brings the latest breakthroughs from the lab to the bedside. Our ultimate goal is to find a cure for MPM.
Research is critical to the mission of The Pacific Meso Center. Without the philanthropic support of individuals who care, The PMC’s unique ability to develop new treatment approaches—and eventually a cure– would be impossible.
The exploration of innovative ideas is at the heart of The Pacific Meso Center’s unique research program and provides the promise of future treatment breakthroughs. Thousands of current and future mesothelioma victims desperately need financial assistance to fund this research and make new treatments a reality.
