1st International Symposium on Lung-Sparing Therapies for Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma

The UCLA Mesothelioma Research Program, in conjunction with the Pacific Meso Center, will be sponsoring the 1st International Symposium on Lung-Sparing Therapies for Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma. This will be the first scientific symposium of its kind featuring cancer treatments that preserve the victim’s lungs. This unique one day symposium will take place on Saturday, May 21st at the Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m (click here for the symposium brochure).
The symposium will be led by Dr. Robert B. Cameron, Director of the Mesothelioma Research Program at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the West Los Angeles Veterans’ Administration Medical Center and a long-time advocate of lung-sparing therapies for treatment of pleural mesothelioma.
The symposium’s distinguished international faculty includes Dr. Tom Treasure and Dr. David A. Waller, renowned thoracic surgery authorities from the UK, who will discuss the recent startling results of the Mesothelioma and Radical Surgery (MARS) Trail conducted in the UK. The program will also feature experts in the fields of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and pulmonary medicine.
The symposium is accredited for a maximum of 7.25 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Continuing Medical Education Credits. However, mesothelioma patients, family members, advocates, and students are also welcomed to attend.
The cost of the seminar is $150 for physicians, $100 for nurses and $50 for patients and family members. The enrollment fee includes parking, breakfast, morning and afternoon tea /coffee and a 3 course plated lunch.
