Basic Funding Needs - The PMC has “ongoing” maintenance expenses to continue its unique service to mesothelioma victims. Lease costs, personnel for research and administration (ED, banking, accounting, etc) as well as an all important mesothelioma nurse practitioner as a resource for these patients who receive little accurate information outside of these channels all require funding on an ongoing basis. Currently, the estimated annual cost for these expenses is $500,000.

Matching Legal Awards: The PMC has established a matching program for patients and their legal team for contributions to research that become possible from any asbestos-related litigation. For example, if you pledge 5% to The PMC’s research program, a judgment for $100,000 will contribute $5000 to The PMC’s research programs and leave $95,000 for you. In addition, if your legal team agrees to match your donation, a total of $10,000 will be donated to The PMC. For a 10% pledge matched by your legal team, that would amount to $20,000 for each $100,000 compensation awarded. This can be a very effective way to multiply your contribution and should be discussed with your legal team before finalizing any agreement, if possible—although it is never too late to discuss this possibility with your legal team.

Matching Gifts: Many employers match charitable contributions given by their employees. Find out from your Human Resources Department about your company’s matching gift policy. If your company does participate, obtain a matching gift form and send the completed form, along with your contribution to The PMC. Your company will send the matching gift once it has been verified by The PMC.

Matching Employee Funds: Find out if your employee provides a vehicle for tax-deductible charitable contributions through payroll deductions. If they do, they often will match your contribution dollar for dollar. The PMC is willing to make a presentation to employee groups to inform them of this opportunity.

Wills and Bequests: Helping to fund the fight against mesothelioma using wills and bequests is a memorable and dignified way to honor those who have succumbed to this disease. The benefactor may be an individual diagnosed with mesothelioma, or a bequest in memory of one. Perhaps you, too, can consider leaving a bequest to The PMC. You do not have to be wealthy to leave a significant gift to The PMC. And significant estate planning benefits may apply. Your planned gift can be in the form of any of the following assets:

• Stocks & Shares
